FAQ

What is the best way to get in touch with Cohn Tax Company for tax related questions?

The best way to get in touch with Cohn Tax Company is to schedule an appointment directly. Emails can pile up quickly, and voicemails may not provide the level of focus needed for complex tax questions. By booking an appointment, you're securing dedicated time in the schedule where we can give you our full attention and focus on your unique needs. Scheduling is simple and ensures that you get the time and expertise you need, without the delay or back-and-forth of emails.

What is the best way for new clients to schedule a meeting? How about existing clients?

New clients can schedule an appointment on our website at cohntax.com under the new client scheduling link or call the office at 858-925-8350. Existing clients can access their tax dome portal for scheduling as well as calling the office.

What if I have a tax question unrelated to my return during tax season, can I schedule an appointment for that?

No, during tax season we solely focus on tax returns. You are welcome to schedule an appointment outside of the January 1 to April 30 tax window for all non-tax return related questions.

I sent you an email a week ago and haven’t heard a response?

While email and voicemail can be convenient, they aren't the most effective ways to get the immediate attention you deserve. Please schedule an appointment so we can discuss your situation thoroughly and move forward with the best solutions for you. Scheduling is simple, timely, and ensures dedicated time on our schedule.

Do I have to book an appt during tax season for you to do my return?

Yes, booking an appointment is required during the tax season to get your return started. This ensures that your tax preparation is properly scheduled and prioritized on our calendar. If you decide that you don't need to meet, you can simply message us in the tax portal a day or two before the appointment to cancel the meeting, and we can proceed with preparing your return. You’ll still have your return completed and delivered to you. If you don’t have any questions, you can cancel the appointment after the return is delivered. However, if you do have questions or need further assistance, we can move forward with the scheduled appointment for a more in-depth discussion.

I prefer to work in paper, can I drop off my documents to you?

For all new clients, Cohn Tax Company is a digital-only firm and we do not maintain or take possession of paper documents for your safety and privacy. For established clients who have been working with us using paper documents, we will continue to provide that service as usual. However, we encourage digital document submission for the most secure and efficient process.

What types of appointments do you have available to me?

You can schedule phone, zoom and in person tax meetings with Cohn Tax. However, our in-person meetings are limited to only one day a week.

Do I have to complete the tax organizer you sent; it is long and takes a lot of time?

Yes, completing the tax organizer is necessary to prepare a complete and accurate return. The organizer includes specific questions that are relevant to your situation, and your answers help ensure that we have all the information needed. If the required information is not provided, we will not be able to complete your tax return. While it may take some time, it’s an essential step in making sure everything is done correctly.

How can I provide documents to you, I sent an email and it didn’t go through?

Cohn Tax Company’s email addresses are set to bounce back if any attachments are included, due to information security protocols. The only acceptable method for providing documents and personal information is through your TaxDome Portal. This secure platform ensures your documents are handled safely and efficiently.

I received a notice from the IRS and/or my state, what do I do?

Upload a copy of the notice to your TaxDome portal and schedule a meeting with Cohn Tax Company to review.

When will I receive my organizer for the tax season?

Cohn Tax will start working on creating organizers in December and will send them out no later than the third week of January.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit cards, debit cards with Visa or Mastercard logo, PayPal, Venmo, and personal checks.

Can I have my fees to Cohn Tax deducted from my refund?

Due to what Cohn Tax deems to be excessive fees charged by third parties who facilitate those transactions, we do not offer that service.

How do I pay my taxes if I owe money?

Tax organizations have various methods of taking fees depending on payment type and type of tax owed, please see instructions from Cohn Tax Company when you filed for your tax specific payment.

How can I check the status of my refund?

The ‘Where’s My Refund’ tool on the IRS website provides the most up to date information regarding the status of your refund. The tool is updated every 24 hours. For California tax returns you can access the “Where’s my refund” page on the State of CA Franchise Tax Board. If you are in a state other than CA a simple online search for your state tax refund will allow you to see the status of refunds in your location.
